Growing up, Libby Martin admired her brothers who showed steers.
Afraid they might be too big for her, the California High School FFA Chapter president instead chose sheep three years ago.
"I found my niche with sheep," Martin said.
Competing at the fair is a "chance to show what you've worked on," she said. "It's really rewarding."
Since March, Martin has been working with her Hampshire-Suffolk cross-breed to break them to a halter, sheer them several times and practice walking and standing with them.
"If you don't do it every day, the forget," Martin said. "It's a lot of work; I don't know if people realize it."
