Jamestown and High Point celebrate on Labor Day weekend

Moniteau County cities of Jamestown and High Point celebrate the three-day Labor Day weekend signaling the beginning of the end of summer.

The 51st Annual Jamestown event, sponsored by the Lions Club, begins with the co-ed softball tournament Friday evening, Aug. 30, and goes through Monday, Sept. 2.

The tournament will run throughout the weekend with the final games on Monday. The beer garden is also open Friday through Monday.

On Saturday, the seventh annual Car and Bike Show will be held at the community building parking lot. Judging will be at noon, awards presented at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, Jamestown FFA will serve breakfast at the Community Building from 8:30 to 10 a.m. At 10 a.m., there will be a Community Worship Service. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. there will be Horseshoe Tournaments. A Washer Tournament begins at 7 p.m.

Monday events include a craft show, bingo and childrens' games. The "all you can eat barbecue" from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The 21st annual High Point Homecoming this Labor Day weekend celebrates the 60th anniversary of the High Point School. It begins Saturday, Aug. 31, with the two-mile walk/five K run at 7:30 a.m, baby show at 10 a.m. and parade at 11 a.m. The California Community Ensemble and High Point School Band will both take part in the parade which will begin at the High Point School and go through town.

A variety of activities will take place following the parade. There is an art show from noon to 3 p.m.; a quilt show from noon to 3:30 p.m.; entertainment on stage from noon to 3 p.m.; and dinner from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Other events include an antique tractor display beginning at 1 p.m.; a kids bicycle rodeo also beginning at 1 p.m.; a softball game beginning about 2 p.m.; a white elephant auction at 3:30 p.m.; and Kingdom Klowns.

Community worship services begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the High Point School. The speaker will be Pastor Ken Barnhart of First Baptist Church, Hartford, Ill.

The Nightlight Youth Softball and Kickball Tournament begins at 4 p.m. Sunday.
