Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds available

Congress has appropriated funds for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to extend their Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) for Phase 31. A local board, comprised of representatives from local governmental bodies, non-profit social service agencies, and religious organizations is charged with overseeing the Phase 31 award distribution for District #1 in mid-Missouri. The local board has announced the total District #1 funding available by county is as follows: Callaway $6,506, Cole $8,976, Moniteau $2,694 and Osage $2,331.

Under the terms of the FEMA grant, local organizations eligible to receive these funds should: 1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the ability to deliver emergency utility, food and/or shelter programs, and 5) have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization. Qualifying organizations are encouraged to apply and the District #1 local board will be responsible for final funding decisions under this phase of the program.

Public or private voluntary organizations in Callaway, Cole, Moniteau and Osage counties who are interested in applying for the Phase 31 Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding should contact the United Way of Central Missouri, at 205 Alameda Drive Jefferson City, MO, 65109 for an application, or call 573-636-4100 or print the application from the United Way website at www.unitedwaycemo.org.
