Gavin Pickering, son of Chris and Barbara Pickering, was presented with scoutings highest honor on June 30, at the United Church of Christ, California. Gavin is a member of Troop 120, located in California. In order to achieve the rank of Eagle, Gavin had to earn 21 merit badges. Gavin earned 32 badges in all. He also had to show leadership by planning, developing and completing a community service project. For his project he cleaned and repainted over 100 fire hydrants within the city limits of California. He began his scouting career in first grade as a Tiger Scout and has achieved every rank in scouting through Eagle Scout. He has served as Quartermaster, Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader within his troop.
He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Sons of Daniel Boone and crossover team. He completed the mile swim and 20 mile hike. During his years in scouting, he has completed over 300 service hours. Gavin will be a junior at California High School this fall. In addition to scouting he is also involved in football, basketball, band, choir and the California Stingrays Swim Team.
The rank of Eagle is earned by less than four percent of all youth who join Boy Scouts.
