Twin City Garden Club holds July meeting

Members of the Twin City Garden Club met at the United Methodist Church Tuesday, July 9. The program was presented by three members of the Grow and Glow Garden Club, Tipton. Twila Garber, Cathy Coffman and Cynthia Broderson presented the program with each giving a different aspect of floral design. Garber started with some of the basics of

design and basic tools needed. She recommended looking for different material to use for containers even the junk pile. She used the Vision of Beauty Calendar for ideas for designs and recommended conditioning the plants before designing.

Coffman demonstrated the formation of the miniature design which is five inches or the small design which is eight inches. She suggested taking a picture or leaving the room and coming back before finalizing the design. She stated a design often corresponds to the

personality of the designer and talked about some unique containers.

Broderson gave the demonstration on dried arrangements. She showed the group the method of preserving flowers in silica gel to dry them. She had dried canna and magnolia leaves which she had dried by hanging them on the line. She demonstrated a design using alium and pinwheels made from wheat. They talked about fitting the design to the theme of the flower show.

The brief business meeting followed with refreshments provided by Janice Taggart. The horticulture minute was provided by Estaline Hunziker. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Fran Scallorns and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Gloria

Longan. She also reported on the children's program at the library. A sign up sheet was circulated for watering duties at the Proctor Park bed. The schedule for the Moniteau County and State Fair Horticulture Program was circulated.
