Sunday Night Thunder at the Double-X Speedway, California, resulted in victories for Kyle Bellm, Gage Wineland and Derek Henson.
The 360 Winged Sprints put on a race to remember with several visiting top drivers challenging the Sunday night regulars. In the feature event, Nixa's Kyle "The Kid" Bellm put on an impressive show as he used his front row starting position to his advantage, running the cushion for the entire 25 laps to claim the victory. The race was not without challenges as Jason Johnson, Rocky Mount, hounded Bellm the entire race, but was unable to mount a pass. With Bellm and Johnson claiming the first two positions, California's Tyler Blank finished third after overcoming a flat tire. Cody Baker, Lone Jack finished fourth and Josh Fisher, Smithton, completed the top five. California's Evan Martin was unable to start the main event. Heat races were won by Sedalia's TJ Muths and Bellm.
In the Hobby Stock division's feature event, Gage Wineland, Syracuse, found himself in victory lane once again. Chasing Wineland the entire race was former track champion Will Register, Sedalia, who was unable to make the pass and finished in second position. Windsor's Chuck Coffey finished third, while California's AJ Wirts and Rudy Wirts claimed fourth and fifth, respectively. Heat races were claimed by Wineland and Coffey.
In the Street Stock feature event, Russellville's Derek Henson continued his winning streak as he claimed his fourth victory of the season and held off veteran Dale Berry, Tuscumbia, who finished second. Jefferson City's Curt Turpin claimed third, followed by Henley's Andrew Roark in fourth place and California's James Keeran, in his first visit to the track this season, in fifth place. Heat race winners were Henson and Berry.
Finishing the card Sunday at the Speedway were the 600cc Micro Sprints. Eugene's Corey Nelson and Mexico's Cole Campbell led the field to the green flag with Campbell ultimately claiming victory. Columbia's Dean Hathman finished in second place, while Jefferson City's Kyle Schlotz placed third. Scott Hathman, Columbia, finished fourth, and Nelson came in fifth. The lone heat race was won by Nelson.
Sunday, June 30, the ULMA Late Models will be featured at the Double-X, along with the Winged Sprints, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps to begin at 7 p.m. and racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.
