Many fifth and sixth grade students and teachers attended Student Conservation Day on Tuesday, April 30, at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds in California.

The students present were from the classes of Lisa Milligan, Lindsey Porter, Kelli Williams and Stephanie Zimmerman, California R-I; Kim Labuary and Dori Belcher of Clarksburg C-2 teachers; Wendy Weber and Debi Baumert of Jamestown C-I; Angie Shane of Latham R-V; Glendon Hostetler of Spring Hill School; and Kara Higgins and Rebecca Campbell of St. Andrew's.

Personnel involved in the daylong event included those from SWCD, Missouri Department of Conservation, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Moniteau County Farm Service Agency, Moniteau County Health Services, California Police Department, Lincoln University Extension, and the California Rural Fire Protection District. The event was coordinated by Nancy Kirby and Bruce Longan.

The event, which is in its ninth year, is designed for youth in attendance to learn more about the environment and conservation of natural resources than they would be expected to learn in school. There were many sponsors of the event which was coordinated by the Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).

Sessions held included wildlife, fisheries, soils, forestry, animal safety, fire safety, auto safety, hunter safety, farm safety and health.
