A total of 15 seniors received their diplomas at the 2013 Prairie Home R-V Graduation ceremony Sunday afternoon in the school gymnasium.

Superintendent Barbara Bancroft opened the event with a warm welcome to the graduates, faculty, family and friends. Special music, "Whenever Your Remember," was provided by the senior girls.

Principal Patrick Tray then introduced guest speaker and PHS Alumni Deanne Dick, who encouraged the graduating seniors to keep their eyes open to new experiences and to never be afraid to ask for advice. "Some of you may want to get away from this small town, while some may want to stay; either way, you're going to take similar experiences with you wherever you go."

In closing, Dick said, "Look back on your experiences at Prairie Home School with pride."

After the PHS Band performed "Carnival of Roses Overture", PHS Board President Kathleen Kendrick presented certificates of graduation to the PHS eighth graders.

PHS Counselor Sharon Lucas and others presented awards and scholarships to the seniors.

Principal Dick recognized Melanie Bryan as the Class of 2013 Valedictorian, and Kendra Stinson as the salutatorian.

PHS Assistant Principal Leigh Ann Grunden presented a personal and emotional farewell to the seniors, who were her fourth grade students nine years ago, Grunden's first year at PHS. She told the seniors she was giving them their final assignment - to live their lives.

Grunden also recalled fond memories she shared with them. In closing, she said, "Take chances, show respect, and always wear clean underwear when you leave the house. Thanks for the memories. I love each of you."

PHS Board President Marsha Stewart presented diplomas to each of the seniors.

After viewing the senior class video, the 2013 graduates gathered for final pictures as a class, then tossed their caps.
