California Historic District reports to CPI

Representatives of each committee of the California Historic District presented the committee reports on Tuesday, May 21, to the board of directors of California Progress, Inc. (CPI).

In addition to the committee general reports, the Action Plans of the Organization Committee, Design Committee, Economic Restructuring Committee and Promotion Committee were submitted for approval. After review, the CPI board approved the Action Plans, with a few changes.

CPI, as the parent organization, was also requested to approve a vision or mission statement, either one of the three submitted, or one of the CPI board's choosing. Following a discussion of the meaning of mission statements, the board approved a California Historic District Mission Statement.

The approved Mission Statement is: "To create the best small town historic district in Missouri by encouraging existing businesses to improve the look and feel of their business, and to bring in new businesses to the historic district."

In related business, the board approved opening a separate bank account for the California Historic District organization.

The CPI board also looked over the selected historic district which has been mapped out. The district begins on the north with the area around the courthouse, extends three blocks south along High Street, one block west on South Street, then along Oak Street to Buchanan Street (Business 50 West).

The Sock, Hop & Roll fundraiser is on June 7.

The possibility of a Farmers' Market is off the table for this year. There are a number of regulations that have to be followed to have a community Farmers' Market.

Other decisions made included not to have a CPI float in the Independence Day parade, since most board members are committed to other parade-related activities. Another decision was to support the "business expo" proposed by the Moniteau County Regional Economic Development Council (MRED). Details, including a date must be worked out.

The Friends of the Finke Theatre reported leaks in the historic building which were noticed after the fierce wind and rain storm Monday. A broken gutter, a piece of loose flashing and wind blowing rain under a door were responsible for much of the water leakage. The Friends group is repairing the damage.
