CHS volleyball teams wrap up season with banquet

California High School varsity and JV volleyball players, coaches, family and friends gathered at the high school Nov. 19 to reflect on the 2013 season and recognize the athletes for their individual contributions to the season.

Following a meal provided by the Booster Club, head coach Julie Bailey and JV coaches Sarah Hays and Maggie Long presented certificates of participation to the players, as well as letters to those who lettered.

Special awards were also presented. Coach Long presented awards to the following members of the JV Blue team: Leanna Reichl, Hitting Award and Most Coachable Player Award; Ellie Wirts, Passing Award; Roz Martensen, Serving Award; and Carlie Bleich, Setting Award.

Coach Hays presented awards to the following members of the JV White team: Cameron Meyer, Hitting Award; Kayla Allison, Passing Award; Emma Bailey, Serving Award and Setting Award; and Lindsey Morris, Most Coachable Player Award.

Coach Bailey presented awards to the following members of the varsity team: Sydney Deeken, Hitting Award and Passing Award; Caitlin Meyer, Digging Award; Morgan Henley, Serving Award; and Abby Lueckenotte, Setting Award.

Bailey also recognized the following varsity players who garnered special honors throughout the season: All-Conference - first team and MVP, Deeken; second team, Caitlin Meyer and Lueckenotte; and honorable mention, Paige Halsey and Madilyn Safley; All-District - first team, Deeken; second team, Meyer and Lueckenotte; All-Region and All-State, first team, Deeken.

Bailey spoke about each of the four seniors and presented gifts to them.

In closing, Lueckenotte presented a gift to Coach Bailey on behalf of the varsity players.

The varsity finished the 2013 season 21-9-2, while the JV Blue finished 7-3, and the JV White, 12-4.
