Lady Pintos defeat Lady Bulldogs

The California High School volleyball teams played at Mexico Monday night, where the varsity defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-11 and 25-12.

"The girls played at their level and limited their errors to help us gain a victory," California Coach Julie Bailey said. "Abby Lueckenotte served well and had some key digs and valuable assists."

Sydney Deeken led California with 13 kills, seven digs, two blocks and one ace. Lueckenotte had five digs, seven assists and two aces. Caitlin Meyer had four digs and three kills, Ashtyn Goans had two kills and Paige Halsey had one kill and one block. Madilyn Safely had eight assists.

California's JVA defeated Mexico 25-21 and 28-26, while the JVB Lady Pintos won their match 25-19 and 25-8.

Previously, California's JVB hosted Jefferson City Sept. 24, where the Lady Pintos lost 17-25 and 16-25 to the Lady Jays.

"It was a tough game, but our girls played hard," California Coach Maggie Long said. "I'm proud of their performance. Ellie Wirts especially stood out for us and didn't let anything get by her on the back row. She's a great libero."

Wirts led California with 15 digs. Claire Kuhlman had 12 digs. Roz Martensen had two aces, six diigs and two kills. Leanna Reichl had six digs and one kill and Lindsey Morris had two kills and one dig. Carlie Bleich and Kelly Sommerer chipped in with three digs each and two assists each.

California's varsity will participate in the Warrensburg Tourney Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
