Completed work reports were presented to the full City of California Board of Aldermen at its Monday meeting, Oct. 7.
The sewage improvement project in the Marshall Addition of the city is finished and should solve the ongoing problem. Because of continual sewer backups at residences in the area, the April 1, 2013, city budget included $20,000 for the work. Water and Wastewater Supervisor Kyle Wirts reported the work has been completed under budget at $7,000.
Street Supervisor Vic Maurer reported completion of the chip and seal project of Jefferson City Road from Main Street to the city limits at the turnoff to Cargill. He also reported the milling completed on Roach Street, with an asphalt overlay to be applied starting the next day (Tuesday). The overlay will extend from business 50 to the city limits at about the hard right turn on the south end of the street.
The ball fields at California Sports Complex have been improved, according to Parks Supervisor Robert Pace. About 15 tons of topsoil have been applied, the fields leveled and the outfields seeded. Pace said this should take care of some of the low spots.
The annual audit report was presented to the board by Travis Hundley, representing Gerding, Korte and Chitwood, CPA's. It was a "clean opinion."
An Eagle Scout Project presented by Jacob Heppard was approved by the council. Heppard's project involves landscaping the area around the California Fire House at the corner of Industrial Drive and Business 50 East. It will involve mulch, planting and trimming shrubs and some rock placement. Fire Chief Allen Smith commented that a lot of the planned project is restoration of the landscaping of the building when it was built about 20 years ago.
The next regular monthly meeting will be Nov. 4, at city hall.
