City of California residents can now sign up for Co-Mo Connect.
The fiber-to-the-home network, which provides blazing-fast Internet, crystal-clear telephone and reliable TV service, is a product of Co-Mo Comm, the communications subsidiary of Co-Mo Electric Cooperative. City residents who aren't Co-Mo Electric members can sign up by going to co-mo.net and following the special link on the homepage.
The signup period, during which the installation fee is just $100 while crews are in the area building the network, runs through Dec. 2. Residents will still be able to sign up after that, but the installation fee will be higher because a crew would have to be sent out specifically for that location.
"We're excited about the opportunity to extend Co-Mo Connect into the city of California and bring those economic-development opportunities and quality-of-life improvements here to the business and residential communities," said Randy Klindt, general manager for Co-Mo Comm.
The project stems from an agreement between Co-Mo Comm and the city of California that paved the way for the subsidiary to begin the first extension of Co-Mo Connect beyond the electric cooperative's members. Co-Mo Comm contractors have spent the past several months removing the lines of defunct cable companies from the city's utility poles.
In the place of those lines will be placed Co-Mo Connect fiber, which will carry some of the fastest Internet speeds in the country. Packages start at 5 megabits per second and range up to 1 gigabit per second. Special business pricing is available.
Beyond Internet, Co-Mo Connect also offers unlimited local and long-distance residential telephone service, as well as Co-Mo Connect TV. More information and channel lineups can be found at co-mo.net. Marketing materials will soon be mailed to all eligible subscribers.
Klindt said Co-Mo Connect has several major advantages - especially speed, reliability and price.
"Fiber-to-the-home gives you the fastest speeds around and isn't susceptible to outages from passing rain clouds," he said. "The prices are more than competitive, and we're not going to try to trick you with introductory teaser rates that go up dramatically after six months or a year. Our prices are our prices, plain and simple."
Discounts are available for subscribers who choose more than one service. A $15 a month discount is available for those choosing two services. That rises to $35 a month for those choosing all three. Details can be found at Co-Mo.net or by calling (800) 781-0157.
Ken Johnson, CEO/General Manager of Co-Mo Electric and President of Co-Mo Comm, said he encourages city residents to sign up before the deadline.
"We want to get you on our construction map," he said. "This service is truly revolutionary, and the fact that it's right here in our little slice of rural America is something special."
