Prairie Home Turkey Trot 5-k run/walk scheduled

The second Prairie HomeTurkey Trot 5k run/walk will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 a.m. The cheerleaders have taken over the sponsorship of the Turkey Trot. Get rid of the guilt for all those Thanksgiving calories by participating in this family friendly event. Runners, walkers, kids in strollers and dogs on leashes are all welcome. This fundraiser is a great way to support the cheerleaders as they work to get ready for the 2013-2014 season.

The race will start at the new Prairie Home track (on J Highway just west of the baseball field) and will finish at school, where breakfast will be available to those interested. Runners will start at 7:30 a.m. For those choosing to walk, the start time is 7:45 a.m. Please arrive by 7 a.m. to sign your waiver and to pick up your t-shirt and race number.

There will be a prize for the first place female and first place male runner. There will also be a prize for the best Thanksgiving-themed costume.

Pre-registration is $20. If you choose to purchase a commemorative 2013 Turkey Trot shirt, they are available for $8. There will be a family rate: first family member is $20, each additional member (who resides in the same household) can participate for $10. Shirts remain $8 a piece. Prairie Home Student Discount- currently enrolled students of Prairie Home can pre-register for $20 and get a free shirt. (The discounted prices/rates cannot be combined.)

After the race, you are welcome to partake of a celebratory breakfast of pancakes, eggs, choice bacon or sausage and a beverage of milk, juice or coffee for $5.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will benefit the Prairie Home Cheerleaders. Registration forms are available from the school office. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Martin at [email protected] or at 660-841-5296.

Prairie Home School has announced the September students of the month. They are Kohlie Stock, senior and Jameshia Johnson, freshman from the high school, eighth grader Madison Young from the middle school, fourth grader Oliver Lock from the upper elementary and Carter Pethan from the lower elementary.

Tuesday, Oct.1, was Senior Night for the Lady Panthers softball team. Those recognized were Jessie Kennedy, daughter of Jim and Teresa Kennedy; Krista Small, daughter of Rick and Laura Small; and Kohlie Stock, daughter of Todd and Kristi Stock. Following tradition established in years past, the girls were given a spoon and jar for them to gather some dirt from their position on the field to serve as a memento of their time as Lady Panthers. After filling their jars with dirt, the seniors released red and black balloons to end the ceremony.

The PTO sponsored Smarty Pants Trivia night on Friday as a fundraiser. There were eight teams who had each paid $80 for the privilege of competing. Members of FCCLA provided babysitting so parents could compete. There were also raffle prizes donated by area businesses. Winning teams were: first place - The Principal's Team; second place - Captain Crunch and the Cereal Killers; third place - The Kixmonsters.
