CHS JV track team competes at Osage Invitational

The California High School junior varsity track team competed at the Osage Invitational for grades 9-10 April 8, where a total of eight teams participated.

In the girls' division for California, Ellie Wirts placed second in the 100 Meter with 13.6, and placed second in the 200 Meter with 28.7. Jackie Gammon finished the 100 Meter in eighth place with 21.0, and Kayla Allison placed second in the 300 Meter Hurdles with 53.8, while Rosie Swillum finished eighth with 59.2.

"Ellie Wirts has done a tremendous job this whole season," California Coach Rick Edwards said. "She has pointed at every meet in every event she's been in so far, and Kayla Allison continues her streak of good 300 hurdling."

In the High Jump, Cameron Meyer placed sixth with 4'6"; Triple Jump, Wirts, sixth, 28'8"; Pole Vault, Allison, eighth, 7'; Shot Put, Audrey Pickering, first, 32'1", and Meyer, second, 26'5"; and Discus Throw, Meyer, first, 82'8", and Pickering, second, 82'1".

"Our girl thowers had a great day sweeping the shot and the discus," Edwards said. "Cameron Meyer and Audrey Pickering did an excellent job." 

In the boys' division for California, AJ Kendrick placed fifth in the 100 Meter with 11.9, and Rudy Wirts placed eighth with 12.3. In the 200 Meter, Phillip Strobel finished seventh with 25.6; 110 Meter Hurdles, Logan Cox placed eighth with 20.0; 300 Meter Hurdles, Gunner Baquet, fourth, 48.9; 400 Meter, Jacob Collier, seventh, 61.9; 800 Meter, Ethan Hodges, second, 2:18; and 1600 Meter, Mason Albertson, fourth, 5:29, and Macaiah Garcia, eighth, 5:46.

In the 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Strobel, Kendrick, Rudy Wirts and Chris Menchaca placed second with 49.1; 4x200 Meter Relay, team of Strobel, Wirts, Menchaca and Sam Cummings, second, 1:43; 4x400 Meter Relay, team of Menchaca, Cummings, Zane Safley and Ethan Hodges, fifth, 4:14.

In the High Jump, Cummings placed fourth with 5'4"; Long Jump, AJ Kendrick, first, 20', and Baquet, third, 19'2"; Triple Jump, Baquet, second, 29'7", and Kendrick, fourth, 38'2"; Pole Vault, Cox, fourth, 10'; Shot Put, Hunter RuBert, third, 36'5"; and Discus Throw, RuBert, fifth place, 92'2".

"Our boy jumpers did well, with AJ and Gunner placing high in both jumps," Edwards said. "Ethan Hodges can do a lot of events and do them well. We have a good group of young runners."
