One person died about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, following a collision between an ATV and a motor vehicle in California at the Business 50 - Highway 87 traffic light.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Honda TRX 300 ATV, driven westbound on Business 50 by Ray W. Varner, Jamestown, made a right turn onto Highway 87 north at the traffic light and struck a northbound 2007 Saturn Outlook, driven by Amy Miller, Russellville.

Varner was reported to have been ejected from the ATV. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reported to have not been wearing a helmet.

Miller was reported wearing a seat belt. The Saturn was reported to have sustained minor damage from the collision. Moderate damage was reported to the ATV.

This is Troop F's seventh fatality in the month of August and the 48th for the year.
