Source of loud boom being investigated

The source of one or more loud noises, described as a "loud boom" by several residents, is under investigation by the California Police Department and Moniteau County Sheriff's Department.

A noise reported Saturday, Dec. 28, about 11:30 p.m., was reportedly heard not only in California, but as far away as Jamestown, High Point, Latham and McGirk.

"At this point, we don't know what it was," said California Police Chief Mike Ward Monday, Dec. 30. "It's an ongoing investigation at this time. There are no reports of property damage."

The Sheriff's Department responded with two county cars to the reported locations, but reported they were unable to find the cause of the noise.

They are still looking into the matter. Some locations reported multiple noises, but no cause has been found, so far.
