A Lotto ticket sold at Breaktime in California turned out to be a big winner for someone. That someone who won $3.1 million remained unknown on Monday, Dec. 30.

The clerks on duty knew only that the ticket was sold sometime between the morning of Thursday Dec. 26 and 8:59 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28. One clerk commented that she didn't know who had sold the ticket but hoped she was the one.

Jackpot winners have 60 days after the claiming date to decide if they would like to receive the prize in one payment (cash option) or spread over 25 annual payments (annuity option).

If the winner does not choose an option after 60 days, payment automatically defaults to the annuity option. The cash option prize is approximately half of the advertised jackpot.

According to Susan Goedde, of the Lottery Commission, the winner has 180 days to claim the prize.
