The City of California Parks and Recreation Department hosted the "Explore the World" art class for area youth in grades K-8 Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25, at Proctor Park, in which participants created a number of art pieces, each with the theme of a different country.

Director Missy Gerhart said the agenda for the week included the following: On Monday participants created passports and suitcases, and made tie-dye shirts to prepare for exploring; on Tuesday they made maracas for Mexico; on Wednesday (today) they made Egyptian collars for Egypt. On Thursday they will make mosaic stepping stones for Italy, and on Friday they will make Chinese Lanterns for China.

Gerhart said there were a total of 30 participants in the class, which consisted of a morning session and an afternoon session.
