Academic Excellence display planned for CHS

California High School Principal Mike Hight reported to the California R-I School Board, at the May 21 school board meeting, that an academic showcase is being planned and developed for a wall in the high school commons.

"The academic excellence wall is planned as a complement to the athletic displays already in place," said Hight.

It is hoped to develop a nice display of California High School students academic achievements to greet visitors entering the school. Although the discussion is still ongoing as to what might be on display, it is agreed that high academic achievement is to be recognized, with both historical recognition and ongoing recognition included. "It should be a recognition of high honors," Hight said, "But what should be included as high honors remains under discussion. A big goal is to create something substantial."

The beginning display is expected to be ready for the public by fall, with updates to be done each June when school is out. Much of the work is being done by Peggy Huhmann, academic team leader, along with others including art teacher Brad Friedrich.
