Eagle Scout Alexx Lewis was inducted into the ranks of Eagle Scouts in a ceremony held in the California High School commons Saturday, May 17. The location chosen for the induction was fitting, since his Eagle Scout project was creation of a new Pinto mascot image for California R-I School.

The idea, according to Lewis, was to create "a unique Pinto for our school, so the school doesn't have to pay copyright fees." He said it has been a problem that there have been so many Pinto logos and images around over the years, and some of them have been nearly identical to images copyrighted by others.

Lewis said scouting is very important. "It changed my life and has given me structure throughout high school," he said. "Part of being an Eagle Scout is living life with the Eagle Scout oath of morals and ethics." In addition, his brothers being Eagle Scouts gave him "something to shoot for."

The new Eagle Scout said that an important part of being an Eagle Scout is living life with the Eagle Scout oath of morals and ethics. The Scout oath is "On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight." The Scout Law is: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

"My future is yet to be determined," Lewis said. In the meantime, he is a 2014 CHS graduate who is headed for Arkansas State to play football for the Red Wolves. He plans to seek a degree with a major in forensic psychology and a minor in criminology, with some consideration of going into criminal forensics and rehabilitation counseling.

Lewis is the son of Russ and Mary Lewis and Michelle Sontag.
