Plans for the annual "Wine, Dine and Win" CPI fundraiser were finalized, at the noon CPI meeting at the library Thursday, March 20. The 2014 CPI fundraiser is from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Braykley's Banquet Hall, Centertown. The dinner is catered by Gumpsters.
To purchase a ticket for the big event, contact one of the CPI board members: Mike Staton, Larry Kent, Becky Lawson, Brian Scrivner, Brandon Garber, Beth Jungmeyer, Connie Walker, Blake Howard, Alex McGill, Dave Wilson, Tyler Davis or Jason Blankenship. Or call Vickie Schroeder at the CPI office 573-796-4071.
Other items of business included the California Historic District (CHD), the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) grant for a Revolving Loan Fund and the Cinco de Mayo event.
Representatives of the California Historic District (CHD) reported progress to the CPI board, and displayed one of the new banners for the lights in the area.
Keith Winge, new State Community Development Coordinator for Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC), was present for the meeting. The CHD committee is the California organization associated with MMSC.
"Most historic districts are their own entities," Winge said. "This one is under an umbrella. It's not a common structure." He said what is important is that it works.
Answering questions, Winge said the fundraising for the CHD needs to be broad based. The recommendation is for 30 percent of fundraising from each of public, private and events sources. The remaining 10 percent should come from miscellaneous sources. He said there are some grants available.
The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) grant for a Revolving Loan Fund was reviewed. Donations for the fund may be accepted at any time. Funds are to be used for renovation of the exterior facades of the structures in the historic district.
The CHD asked for volunteers to assist with the Cinco de Mayo celebration for Saturday, May 3. It will be in the block of High Street south of the Finke Theatre.
The "Wine, Dine and Win" fundraiser will be April 12. The next regular meeting is set for April. 17 at noon at the library.
