Chamber to host annual dinner at Centennial Hall Jan. 24

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Board held its monthly meeting Thursday.

The minutes from the November and December meetings, as well as, the treasurer's report presented by Melissa Bonecutter were approved.

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at Centennial Hall-Upper Level.

The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year will be recognized during the program.

Tickets are $15 per person and available in the Chamber office. Entertainment will be provided by Mere Mortals, a bluegrass group.

Rita Hammerly, chairperson of the Annual Dinner Committee, shared they met Jan. 5 at Centennial Hall to discuss layout, and to finalize responsibilities and the evening program. Board members are requested to help set up tables and chairs at 10 a.m. on the Saturday of the event.

Also, help will be needed for clean up after the evening event. There was a reminder for board members to check with the businesses assigned to them for silent auction items. These items can be taken to Mr. G's or the chamber office.

Board Secretary Diane Eulinger distributed a written report which advised the board of her recent activities which included sending out the annual dinner invitations and composing a list of those paying membership dues for 2015.

Eulinger gave a written letter stating her retirement date would be July 31, 2015.

After discussion it was decided a hiring committee would be appointed in March, with the application process to begin in April for the part time.

Robin Ratcliff was approached with the idea of the winners of the Christmas California Style home decorating contest be used to judge entries for the next year. The board will take this suggestion into consideration for December 2015.

John Agliata passed out flyers for the Sixteenth Annual Community Prayer Breakfast to be held Thursday, Jan. 29, at the K of C Hall in Tipton. Agliata said they would like to expand the Prayer Breakfast and asked that any and all individuals and businesses consider sponsoring a table. Reservations are $11 each or $70 for a table of eight.

Norris Gerhart shared the requests for bids was complete and that advertising will be done soon for the Welcome to California sign. Gerhart reminded the board that design build means a variety of different designs to consider could be submitted and that MoDOT will have the final approval before construction can begin.

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Board will meet again Thursday, Feb. 12 at 8 a.m. at the California City Hall meeting room.
