Eagles take three of four

After inclement weather wiped out some of Jamestown’s games on the early part of the schedule, the Eagles were looking forward to a busy week.

It’s safe to say Jamestown made the most its four-game week, as it picked up three wins to move to 3-4 on the season.

Jamestown 11, Bunceton 3

The Eagles soared out to an 8-0 lead before Bunceton ever broke through, and that was more than enough offense for pitcher Christian DeVore, who struck out five in four and two-thirds innings to pick up the win in the April 5 game. DeVore also helped his own cause at the plate, driving in a pair of runs in the game.

Wyatt Hunziker, Garrett Wolfe and Austin Flippin also had big games at the dish. Wolfe had two hits and three RBI, while Hunziker had two of each. Flippin, meanwhile, led the Eagles with five hits in the victory.

Jamestown 16, Higbee 4

Flippin earned the win in the Eagles’ run-rule-shortened victory over Higbee, going five innings and fanning a total of seven on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, at the plate for Jamestown, Wolfe led the way. He delivered six RBI on four hits to out-produce Higbee’s run total all by himself. Hunziker also a big night, tallying two hits and three RBI in the win.

Jamestown 12, Tuscumbia 1

After Tuscumbia scored in the top of the first inning, Wolfe settled in on the mound to throw four scoreless remaining innings in another run-rule-shortened win for the Eagles in the first game of their Saturday doubleheader.

Wolfe went the distance in this one, striking out 13 and allowing just one hit in the victory. The right-hander also had a big night at the plate, driving in a team-high four runs on two hits. DeVore also had a pair of hits for the Eagles to go along with three RBI in the win.

New Bloomfield 9, Jamestown 3

A potent New Bloomfield offense halted the Eagles’ three-game winning streak in Saturday’s second game.

New Bloomfield’s Derek Shikles was dominant, allowing just four hits in seven innings and striking out seven. DeVore was the one Eagles hitter to get a feel for Shikles, as he accounted for two of Jamestown’s four hits in the loss.
