Saturday losses drop Jamestown to 4-8

Jamestown had no problems offensively on Saturday against Versailles. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead and tallied seven runs total on eight hits. However, 17 runs from Versailles — all scored in the game’s final four innings — were enough to drop the Eagles 17-7 in a run-rule-shortened game.

Jamestown had absolutely no answer for Versailles’s Gavin Silkwood, who drove in five runs at the plate and also struck out seven hitters in a complete game win. Sophomore Garrett Wolfe was the Eagles’ main source of offense, finishing with a pair of hits in the loss.

After Jamestown had allowed 13 hits in Saturday’s earlier loss to Versailles, Wolfe took the mound in game two and only gave up a pair of hits. However, five errors and no run support to speak of doomed the Eagles in a 4-0 loss to Northwest.

Jamestown only totaled four hits of its own, and despite a whopping 14 strikeouts from Wolfe, he got charged as the losing pitcher in the game.

Eugene 13, Jamestown 3

The Eagles simply could not keep Eugene off the board in Thursday night’s loss. Twelve hits and at least one run scored in every frame propelled Eugene to a win via run-rule in five innings.

Though Jamestown could only muster three hits off Eugene starting pitcher Mason Kirkweg, Austin Maslen did provide some run support for the Eagles, knocking in a pair of runs in the loss.

Jamestown 12, Sweet Springs 2

One day after coming up a run short against California, the Eagles left absolutely no doubt in their run-rule victory over Sweet Springs on Wednesday. Cole Thiessen picked up the win, going all five innings on the mound and notching four strikeouts.

Wolfe, Austin Flippin and Brandon Thompson all had a pair of hits, and Thompson led the way offensively for Jamestown with four RBI win the win.
