Russellville man faces multiple drug charges

A Russellville man is facing multiple drug-related charges.

Arthur Gagnon, 29, is charged with second-degree trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, stealing and resisting arrest.

Officers stopped Gagnon while he was driving Wednesday afternoon on East McCarty Street, near Supercenter Drive, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. Gagnon was known to have an active felony warrant out for his arrest.

After he stopped his vehicle, Gagnon got out and fled into a nearby wooded area.

Officers were able to take Gagnon into custody, and he told them he fled because he "can't go back."

Officers searched Gagnon and found more than $1,100 in cash in one of his pockets.

A search of his vehicle found a stolen firearm, three plastic bags with 52 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale as well as numerous materials of drug paraphernalia, including a notepad with names and numbers of individuals.

When questioned, Gagnon admitted to selling methamphetamine, trading some drugs for the stolen gun, which he was told at the time was "hot."

In March 2015, Gagnon was placed on five years of supervised probation for pleading guilty to two counts of selling methamphetamine in May 2014.

Court documents show Gagnon sold the drugs to an undercover law officer in parking lots in Jefferson City.

He had been out on bond for a prior charge of distribution of a controlled substance stemming from an arrest in April 2014.
