Gerbes recalls Kroger brand nuts

Kroger recalled packages of its Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts due to possible contamination by Listeria on Thursday.

Gerbes, which has two locations in Jefferson City, is a Kroger subsidiary and sells Kroger branded items in its stores. Kroger said in a news release a supplier reported possible contamination by Listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people and people with weakened immune systems. When not fatal, Listeria can cause fevers, headaches, nausea and diarrhea among other symptoms. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall affects products sold at stores in Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Customers who purchased the products should not consume them and can return them to Gerbes or Kroger store for a full refund or replacement.
