Pray Across Missouri events slated at area sites

Hands will fold reverently throughout the state as Baptists are called together for Pray Across Missouri over the coming months.

The Pray Across Missouri initiative strives to bring the state's Baptist believers together in all 114 county seats in 2017-18. The Missouri Baptist Convention is calling on Show-Me State pastors to organize 45-minute prayer meetings at every county courthouse in an attempt to transform communities and lives through the gospel, MBC Executive Director John Yeats said in a news release.

"We're intentionally beginning Pray Across Missouri in a non-election year because this is not a political campaign," he said. "Rather, we want to pray for all of those who serve Missourians in the public square and to acknowledge that God has placed men and women in authority over us to promote good and restrain evil.

"God's word calls us to pray for them. We know, ultimately, that lives and communities are truly transformed, not by political processes, but by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our prayer is for a mighty movement of God in the Show-Me State."

A prayer meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. today at the Moniteau County Courthouse. On Oct. 12, Baptists in Callaway County will congregate at 1:30 p.m., while those in Osage County will gather at 3:30 p.m.
