Due to the hot and humid July weather, the Moniteau County Democrat Club will hold its 2019 picnic July 25 at its headquarters.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will be at 317 S. Oak St.

This year's guest speaker is Kari Chesney, a candidate for Missouri's 50th House District in 2020. She is a veterinarian and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Missouri. She will speak at 7 p.m.

Chesney's expertise in the scientific field will bring an evidence-based and data-driven approach to the host of challenges facing our state government and our communities, from fiscal shortfalls and crumbling infrastructure to underfunded public education and the influence of money in politics, officials said. This is Chesney's first run for public office.
