10th back to school fair on tap

The Moniteau County Back to School Fair will be coming back for its 10th year from 4-8 p.m. July 30 at the California High School.

After realizing a need of a growing number of children in the Moniteau County area who would be attending school in the fall, this would mean a number of them may have unidentified health issues that need to be addressed before school begins.

To answer this call, a group of local volunteers started the Moniteau County Alliance for Kids, which organizes and mans the fair where students can get free health screenings from the Moniteau County Health Department and additional medical experts on vision, hearing and dental.

When each student's screenings are complete, and maybe a referral to an appropriate physician is made, each participating student can go home with a backpack filled with basic school supplies to prepare them for the upcoming school year.

Donations to the Moniteau County Alliance for Kids are tax deductible and go to the Back to School Fair. Donations can be mailed to Moniteau County Alliance for Kids, P.O. Box 220, Tipton, Missouri, 65081, or dropped off at Co-Mo Electric Cooperatives' Tipton office or the Moniteau County Health Center at 401 S. Francis St., Suite A, California.

The last day to register for the fair is June 30 and can be done so at comowufoo.com/forms/zg530af1amba6m/.
