Students doing well in High Point

HIGH POINT, Mo. - Students were praised for their many accomplishments at High Point.

At the Feb. 19 board meeting, Principal/Superintendent Marilyn Maier updated the board on what was happening in the district.

Four students went to district honor choir March 2 in Warrensburg.

"Fifth- and sixth-graders went, and they spent the morning doing clinics with clinicians," Maier said.

In the afternoon, students from High Point and other schools in the area gave a performance.

First- and second-place winners from the school science fair will move on to the Regional Science Fair. Twelve students will spend the day March 22 at Lincoln University giving oral and board presentations.

Some archery students made it to the State Archery Tournament on March 22-23 in Branson.

In other updates, the eighth-grade students will take a graduation trip to Silver Dollar City this year.

"It's almost like a senior trip for our eighth-graders because when they graduate they leave our district," Maier said.

The board approved $500 for the field trip May 14.

In other business, the board:

  • Discussed adding more rocks to the extended parking lot to cover settled areas and mud.
  • Donated $50 to the UCC of California in memory of Jim Dampf, who was father of Doug Dampf, school board president. Dampf died in September.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 18.
