Christmas decorations purchased for 32 California street lights

Buchanan Street will be a bit more festive during the Christmas season with the addition of new decorations for 32 street poles.

The California Chamber of Commerce approved purchasing the new street decorations at its March 14 meeting.

Before the purchase was made, a sample of the decorations was hoisted Feb. 26 on a pole outside Mr. G's Liquor Store. The display met with members' approval, and the chamber authorized the purchase for $12,740.72, which will be paid with Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival funds.

In other action at the March 14 meeting, the chamber discussed holding an educational class on the use of social media to promote business.

The two-hour class will be offered free of charge to chamber members or a representative from the business. More information on the class will be posted on the chamber website and Facebook page.

In other business, chamber members were:

  • Updated on the 2019 Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival committee. The logo for this year will recognize the American Legion Hall and the cannon that was placed in their yard. Vendor fees were discussed to reflect that craft vendors will remain the same while there will be a slight increase in commercial and food booths.
  • Told the farmers market will be held June to October on the lawn next to Grind. The event will be organized by Laura Distler and Holly Bieri with guidelines to be set for products that will qualify to be sold at each event, said Chelsea McGill, owner of Grind.
  • Advised a ribbon cutting will be held noon March 23 at Nic Nac Cafe. David Wyatt, the new business owner, will have an open house and offer a smoked meat special on the menu.
  • Learned the Chamber Easter Egg Hunt will be 1 p.m. April 13 at Proctor Park. Commerce Bank will sponsor the event where children can search for 4,000 eggs and lots of candy. In case of inclement weather, the rain date is April 20.
