Simmons enjoys working at Prairie Home

Prairie Home health aide Nina Simmons has been working at the school for four years.

Simmons said she had been living in the community for a long time when the opportunity to be the health aide presented itself.

"I was working a different job outside of town, and several people approached me to look into the job, and I applied for it," Simmons said. "As a result of working here, I am a certified emergency first responder with Cooper County."

Simmons says students often come to her for their regular medication.

"But more often than not, it is for a scraped knee," she said.

Flu season is one of the most challenging times when working at the school, Simmons said. Another challenge is when she has to deal with the unexpected.

"Especially if somebody gets really hurt, like breaking a bone or something, but you know it has happened, and we worked through it," Simmons said.

She said she enjoys everything about working at the school.

"I enjoy working in the community I live in," Simmons said. "I really enjoy the kids, and I have some great coworkers."
