Two vie for Morgan County assessor's office

Two candidates are seeking the position of Morgan County assessor on the Nov. 8 ballot.

The current assessor, Jim Anderson, is not running for re-election. Seeking to replace him are Republican Ray Bowman and Democrat Colleen Richardson-Richey.

The remaining five races for Morgan County offices are unopposed.

Incumbent Eastern District Commissioner Rodney Schad won the Aug. 2 primary and is running unopposed in the general election. A former construction business owner and farmer in Versailles, Schad previously served as Eastern District commissioner then presiding commissioner in Morgan County before serving eight years as a state representative. Schad serves on the board of directors for Quality Industries, Show Me Christian Youth Home, Hopewell Cemetery Association and Co-Mo Electric Company.

For the Western District commissioner seat, Ryan Hoffa, a Stover alderman and Morgan County deputy sheriff, is running unopposed.

A former Morgan County Sheriff's Department dispatcher, patrol supervisor and chief deputy will be the new Morgan County sheriff; current Sheriff Jim Petty is not running for re-election. Norman Dills will run unopposed for the position after beating three fellow Republican opponents in the August primary.

Incumbent Public Administrator Amanda Huffman is running unopposed. Having served as public administrator since 2013, Huffman also ran unopposed in the August primary.

Incumbent Coroner Maynard "Doc" Jones is also running unopposed. Jones is a doctor and owns Versailles Veterinary Clinic. He has held various positions at fire departments and fire protection districts in Central Missouri since 1967.
