Indians play doubleheader at New Franklin

The Russellville High School varsity baseball team opened the 2014 season with a doubleheader at New Franklin Saturday, where the Indians lost the first game 3-2 to the Bulldogs, then came back to win the second game 8-3.

Pintos win opener at new stadium

Despite the sweltering heat that resulted in an 8 p.m. kickoff rather than the usual 7 p.m. time Friday, the night was all about shiny new things for the California Pintos. It was the first game of the 2014 season, and it was the first official game to be played on the new football field. So it was only fitting that the Pintos come away with a nice big win, which they did as California rumbled to a 44-0 victory over the Boonville Pirates.

ACT Workshops to be offered at CHS

California High School teachers Dana Barr and Peggy Huhmann will each be providing a six-hour workshop for the ACT Test during the 2014-15 school year. Barr will instruct the English and Reading portions, and Huhmann will instruct the Science Reasoning and Math sections.

Pintos get first action of 2014 season at jamboree

The California High School varsity and JV football teams saw their first action of the 2014 season Friday night at the jamboree at Blair Oaks High School, Wardsville, where head coach Marty Albertson said, "I think we played okay. We made a few mistakes, missed a few blocks, but all-in-all we played pretty well."

Final races of 2014 season, awards ceremony held Aug. 3 at Double-X Speedway

The curtain has drawn on the 2014 racing season at the Double-X Speedway. For 25 consecutive seasons the clay oval has provided fans and drivers from across the nation with a hometown version of Sunday Night Thunder. The final night of competition was highlighted Sunday, Aug. 3, by a veteran visiting victory lane, along with the crowning of champions in the point battles in each division.

Battle of Badges held at Double-X Speedway

Race fans were treated to a new group of competitors Sunday night at the Double-X Speedway via the Battle of the Badges race that consisted of drivers from law enforcement agencies all across the state. Also on the card were the Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Winged Sprints.
