Bartlett fills in on mound, leads Missouri past Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. - Missouri baseball began the weekend with a 9-3 win against Mississippi on Friday. With the win, Missouri (27-12, 8-8 Southeastern Conference) surpassed last season's win total of 26.

Cole Bartlett (5-0) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs (two earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts on 100 pitches. Bartlett started for Tanner Houck, who did not have enough time to get ready during the rain delay before the game.

The Rebels took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, but Brett Bond responded with a two-run home run in the top of the second for Missouri, and Connor Brumfield hit his first career home run on a solo shot in the top of the third. Alex Samples hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Nelson Mompierre reached on an error to score a run and Brian Sharp followed with a two-run double. Trey Harris ended the scoring for Missouri with a two-run double in the top of the ninth.

Brumfield went 2-for-4, while Mompierre, Sharp, Harris and Samples each had a double.

Missouri resumes its series at Mississippi at 4 p.m. today.
