Missouri softball falls to Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri softball dropped its opener to No. 20 Kentucky in a 4-2 loss Friday at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Kentucky used a two-run double in the top of the second inning to open with a 2-0 lead. A dropped fly ball in right field allowed two more Wildcats to score to make it 4-0 in the top of the fifth.

Rylee Pierce hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to get Missouri on the board, and Kirsten Mack hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. Mack went 2-for-4 for Missouri.

Cheyenne Baxter (14-6) lost her first Friday start of the season after going six innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

Missouri (27-18, 5-10 Southeastern Conference) resumes its series with Kentucky at 2 p.m. today.
