Big inning propels Russellville to district championship

HARRISBURG, Mo. - The Russellville Indians had their ups and downs in Wednesday's Class 2 District 7 championship game, particularly in the sixth inning.

Fortunately for the Indians, they batted last in an inning that had 15 runs scored.

After allowing six runs in the top half of the to the Harrisburg Bulldogs to tie the game at 10, Russellville scored nine runs in the bottom half to finish with a 19-10 win for the district title.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Russellville drew four consecutive bases-loaded walks to take a 14-10 lead. 

A hit by pitch forced in another run for the Indians and a pair of two-run hits extended the lead to nine runs.

Harrisburg scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Russellville took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the half. The Indians then added four more runs in the fourth to push their lead to 10-3.

Nick Thompson led Russellville at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Trent Morrow was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Matt Miller had two hits and two RBI and Mason Stewart finished with two hits and one RBI. Miller and Stewart scored two runs each.

Chandler Miller and Cory Minor each scored three runs.

Morrow earned the win in relief for the Indians, striking out one batter in 11/3 innings. Austin Roe started on the mound, giving up four runs (two earned) in four innings. He finished with five strikeouts.

Russellville (14-9) will host District 8 champion Linn in the Class 2 sectional round Monday. The Indians edged the Wildcats 6-5 in the regular-season Show-Me Conference matchup earlier this spring.
