Pintos baseball ends season with district loss

The California baseball team was unable to hold onto its early lead, losing 3-1 to the Warsaw Wildcats on May 15 in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 13 Tournament.

Second-seeded California, which hosted the tournament, scored its only run in the bottom of the third inning. Warsaw, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, took the lead with two runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh for the two-run victory.

Isaac Wells pitched six innings for the Pintos, striking out two. He also walked one and allowed four hits. Cade Knipp pitched one inning and struck out one.

Kory Stephens had one RBI for California, which finished its season with a 10-8 record.

Top-seeded Knob Noster won the district tournament, beating Warsaw 2-0 in the championship game last Wednesday.

California had three players named to the all-district team: Hayden Green, Stephens and Wells.

The Tri-County Conference all-conference list was also announced Monday. Stephens was a first-team recipient for the Pintos, while Sam Kirby made the second team and Wells was an honorable mention. California finished fifth in the conference standings with a 3-4 record in the Tri-County.
