Prep Baseball: Russellville finishes fifth

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. - The Russellville Indians wrapped up the Russellville Tournament on Saturday with a 16-7 win against the Salem Tigers in the fifth-place game.

Russellville dropped its opener Saturday 11-5 to Pembroke Hill, finishing 0-2 in pool play.

The Indians scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 11-6 lead against Salem. Russellville added two more runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to seal the win.

Nick Thompson had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a game-high four RBI. He finished a triple shy of the cycle, hitting a three-run home run in the sixth, his team-high fifth of the season.

Landon Plochberger finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, hitting a solo home run in the fourth.

Matthew Miller had two singles and one double, while Ethan Huff collected a pair of singles.

Braden Hickey picked up the win for the Indians. In 5 innings, he allowed seven runs (three earned) on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Austin Roe struck out four in the final 1 innings.

Pembroke Hill scored the first six runs of the game in its win against Russellville.

Hickey had four of the Indians' nine hits, all singles. Mason Stewart also had a pair of hits.

Trenton Morrow took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 42/3 innings.

In Saturday's other trophy games, Wellsville defeated New Bloomfield 11-10 in the third-place game, while Pembroke Hill edged School of the Osage 11-10 in the championship game.

Russellville (11-13) hosts Stover on Friday.
