The California Pintos boys golf team won the District Championship April 30. The team had to overcome a shock when a team member was kicked off the team right before conference.

"We lost (a top) player two days before conference, for breaking a rule in the sports handbook, which hurt the morale of the team." Head Coach Doug Miller said. "We went to conference and placed third -(that) was falling short of that goal, so the district title was very special."

Miller said that many in the team stepped up to help the team's game.

"The sophomores have really stepped up their game, as well as Liam Glenn. (Mattew) Hurt and (Jordon) Gieser have both been pretty consistent," Miller said.

Matt Hurt, Jordan Gieser, Jordan Bondurant, Liam Glenn, and Chris Cassil all earned All-District honors and the team finished with 365 points. Hurt shot a 88, Gieser shot a 89, Bondurant shot a 96, Glenn shot a 92, and Cassil shot a 100.

Miller said that results show that the team's hard work paid off and he has a positive look at the future.

"There are also three other kids on JV that could have shot good enough scores to receive All-District Honors," Miller said. "We will lose three seniors this year and we will be just as good, so the future looks great."

Heading into sectionals Miller said the team needs to work on their short game with their chipping and putting.

Miller said he is happy to see the camaraderie between the boys on the team.

Miller said that the team might not be as confident without the now-former player with them heading into sectionals. Miller said the team is working on the mental part of the game during their remaining practices.
