Russellville defended its home turf on Saturday, Oct. 8 to win the first annual Russellville Cross County Invitational, which took place at Russellville Lions Club Park.
The Indians had a pair of top-three finishers in Austin Roe and Anthony Bertucci. Roe took second with a 17:09.77 while Bertucci came in third with a 17:06.79.
Russellville got four more runners in the top 12 to edge out Battle for the team victory. For the Indians, Beau Bryant took eighth with a 17:47.74, Harrison Frank was ninth with a 17:52.20, Austin Randolph came in 11th with a 18:08.14 and Jared Shirley rounded out the top-12 with a time of 18:16.05.
Tipton took third place as a team led by sophomore Isaac Ashton, who finished ahead of all other runners by more than a minute to win the event with a time of 16:05.19.
The Cardinals also got a top-10 result from Kodie Dick, who came in 10th with a 17:52.66. Sage Eichenburch was the lone competitor for Prairie Home. Eichenburch came in 26th with a 19:44.83.
In girls action, Tipton took home the team title on the strength of a second-place finish by Jana Harrison. The freshman came in at 20:39.94 to lead the Cardinals. Bethany Hodler and Madison Schuster also scored top-10 finishes for Tipton. Hodler was sixth with a 24:00.16 while Schuster's time of 25:12.56 was good for 10th.
Chyan Wilkes was the top finisher for the Indians with a seventh-place time of 24:18.21. Russellville freshman Erica Schweer took ninth with a 24:19.65.
