The California Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual golf tournament June 14 at the California Country Club.

A total of 26 teams of three participated in the 18-hole event. This year, the event, which started in 2004, was maxed out, since 26 teams are the most that can reasonably play two rounds on a nine-hole course.

Tee-off was at 11 a.m. with the final teams coming in just after 5 p.m. Everyone spoke of an enjoyable day. It could only help the tournament that the weather was perfect for golf, making it a great day for everyone to come out, have fun, and a good lunch.

There were 78 golfers, plus friends, family and, of course, workers. Altogether they consumed 170 burgers (estimated to be about two each), many bags of chips and unlimited beverages.

Although the total numbers were not available at press time, in excess of $4,000 was raised from the 26 teams and the 38 hole sponsors. This is the most ever raised through the event. These funds will be used for various Chamber of Commerce events conducted through the year. One example is the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The first place winner was the team of Sean Kirksey, Jerry Kirksey and Matt Abernathy. There was a tie for second place of the Rob Hartman team (Hartman, Logan Gratz and Drew Tucker) and the Commerce Bank team (Brandon Garber, Hayden Eichelberger and Cory Knipp). The first place prize is $300, second place $200, and third place $100. In this case, the second and third place was combined, with $150 going to each team. The Commerce Bank team donated its winnings back to the Chamber.
