The California Pintos softball team traveled to Marshall to play in the annual Marshall Owls Varsity Tournament on Sept. 7. The Pintos came back with the championship.

The Pintos won their first game of the tournament against Marshall 10-0. The Pintos scored six runs in their half of the first inning.

The Pintos won the semifinal against Warrensburg 10-0 as well.

The team faced Warsaw in the championship game. After three scoreless innings, the Pintos took the lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. That would be the final score of the game, as neither team could manage to score over the final three innings to end the game.

Leading the way for the Pintos was Camryn Schlup on the mound, as she pitched three shutouts on the day. In the field, Lauren Spillars, Ella Percival, Sydney Percival, Jenna Berendzen, Macee Johnson, Mariah Mills and Lexy Mullen combined to finish the three games with only one error.

Leading the way on offense for the Pintos were Schlup, Lauren Hill, Berendzen, Sydney Percival, Ella Percival, Spillars and Mills. Mullen had a two-out hit in the championship game that gave the Pintos the lead. Kaylena Riggs got an at bat and reached base as she took an inside fastball off her body to reach first base. Lanie Holtsclaw was used as a courtesy runner and was able to score multiple runs in the tournament.
