Gene G. Edwards, 91, Tipton died Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 2012, at Tipton Oak Manor. He was born Feb. 28, 1921, the only son of Arch and Nellie Edwards. On Nov. 19, 1943 he married Jane Lachner, who survives of the home. Mr. Edwards attended school at California for 11 years, graduating from Tipton High School in 1938. He joined the Naval Air Corps in 1942, receiving his commission and wings in 1943. He owned Edwards Appliance and developed Wedgewood Estates. He was a charter member of the Farmers and Sportsman's Club and Tipton Country Club and a 66-year member of the American Legion. Also surviving are three sons, Tommy wit his wife, Jeanne, Danny, and Archie with his wife, Brenda, all of Tipton; two daughters, Jo-Ellen Hay with her husband, George, and Julie Patton with her husband, Nick, both of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Eric, Kit and Tanner Edwards, Lindy Edwards Holt and Stacey Edwards, and Josh and Kathryn Hay; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Nelson. Private burial was Saturday, December 8, at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
