Paul James Roll, 81, of California, Missouri passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born the oldest child of William R. and Gertrude A. (Walterscheid) Roll at their home in Cedron, Missouri on October 17, 1931. He was united in marriage on August 8, 1953 to Marjorie A. (Wekamp) Roll at St. Martins Catholic Church in St. Martins, Missouri. He was an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where he held many positions on the parish counsel, parish committees and was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul was a charter member of the Mid-Missouri Democratic Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's 4027. For many years, Paul owned and operated taverns in Moniteau County and most recently was co-proprietor of Roll's Highway Beverage with his brother Donald until 1978. He retired from California Manufacturing Company in 1994 where he worked for over 45 years. Paul loved his farm south of California where he raised cattle and taught his grandsons his hobby of restoring old tractors and farm equipment. He will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends in the area who enjoyed his love for life, kindness, sense of humor and tremendous generosity. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Deanna M. Dale and Darla J. Roll, both of California, Missouri; two grandsons, Chase B. Marshall and Liam M. Schatzer, of California, Missouri; two brothers, Harold Roll and Charlie (Pat) Roll of California, Missouri, four sisters, Joyce (Vencil) Hees and Glenda Williams of California, Missouri, Barbara Hanks of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Judy (Donald) Orscheln of Moberly, Missouri and multiple in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and was a truly devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Deborah K Roll, and one brother, Donald F. Roll. A Funeral Mass officiated by Fr. David Maher was held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Missouri. Burial followed at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Annunciation Catholic Church or to Hospice Compassus Jefferson City c/o Roll Funeral Home, 211 South Oak Street, California, Missouri 65018.
