Leona "Wallie" Monroe, 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City. She was born on February 26, 1922 in Jamestown, MO the daughter of Nicholas and Lena (Pruel) Wallenmeyer, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Prairie Home High School, and Central Business College in Sedalia. She moved to Kansas City in 1941 and became a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church. Leona was called "Wallie" by her friends in Kansas City, a contraction of her maiden name Wallenmeyer. In 1959 moved to Kansas City North in a new home designed by her architect husband, John C. Monroe, Jr. She remained at her home for 50 years. She had resided at New Mark Care Center since 2010. During the 60's she was a patroness of the arts and served as President of the Rose Society and Chairman of the Sketchbox Committee of the Kansas City Art Institute. In the early 70's she became a full time real estate agent. Most recently she worked for RE/MAX and served at her office well into her mid-80's. She is the mother of John C. Monroe III and Laurie K. McMahon (deceased). Sister to brothers Dorsey Wallenmeyer and Ralph Wallenmeyer (deceased), grandmother of Andrew, Benjamin and Luke Monroe; and Michiko and Masato McMahon (Laurie's children). She was aunt, cousin and friend to many more. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO. Burial was in Grace United Methodist Cemetery in Jamestown, MO. Officiating was Rev. Lewis Odneal. There will be a memorial service Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 5144Oak Street, Kansas City, MO.
