Jesse Driskel Wood, Jr.

esse Driskel Wood, Jr., 88, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. He was born on January 26, 1925, in Russellville, Mo., the son of the late Jesse Driskel Wood, Sr., and Dorothy Marie Snodgrass Wood. He was married on December 30, 1946, in Waynesville, Mo., to Fern Nathalee Sweatt who preceded him in death on March 2, 1994. Mr. Wood was a 1942 graduate of Centertown (Mo.) High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed for thirty-seven years with the Missouri National Guard as a Sergeant for five years and as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 for thirty years. Following retirement he was employed for several years with McKay Buick in Jefferson City. Mr. Wood was a member and Deacon at Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson City, and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 35, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Survivors include two daughters, Janita (Ray) Hulett, Camdenton, Mo.; and Barbara (Edward) Heinrich, Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Bryan (Beth) Heinrich, Jefferson City; Tina (Bill) Culp, Jefferson City; Darin Heinrich and his friend, Rachel Cockerman, Jefferson City; Shane (Marcy) Hulett, Camdenton, Mo.; and Courtney (Jessica) Hulett, Camdenton, Mo.; one sister, Carol (Dan) Stone, Camdenton, Mo.; one brother, Sam (Lolita) Wood, Lebanon, Mo.; and one brother-in-law, Wayne (Ruby) Sweatt, Montreal, Mo. He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Cliburn. Funeral services were Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Sager officiating.
