Irene Hodler

Irene Hodler, 94, of California, Mo., passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. She was born on July 19, 1921, in California, a daughter of Joseph P. and Hattie E. (Ernst) Baker. She was united in marriage on February 17, 1939, in Tipton to Harvey E. Hodler, who preceded her in death on August 4, 1986. She was a faithful member of the Annunciation Catholic Church. She was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church Quilters, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was also known at the Quilters for the work she did on tea towels. Irene worked as a machine operator for California Jacket Factory and retired after 43 years of service. She always volunteered to bake cookies and help out at local blood drives and she also volunteered with the local VFW post when they had functions. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for the family and special birthday dinners. She liked playing cards and sewing. Her most treasured time was when she was with her family. Irene is survived by: one daughter, Mary Wood; one grandson, Roy Wood (Amy) all of California; one great-granddaughter, Felicia Braun (Ethan) of Stover; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Yard of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by: one grandson, Charles Wood; two brothers, John Joseph and Carl Baker; two sisters, Gertrude Baker and Mary Lee Vereb; one son-in-law, Clyde Wood. The family received friends from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, at the Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Tony Rinaldo officiated. Burial was in the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Annunciation Building Fund or Hospice Compassus c/o the funeral home.
