William Frederick Gibler

William Frederick Gibler, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Golden Living Center. He was born on September 28, 1927, in Cole County, Mo., the son of Solomon E. “Dewey” and Millie (Vogel) Gibler, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on March 7, 1953, in Jefferson City to Jessie “Irene” Cook, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2011. He attended Centertown High School and later served in the United States Navy. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Brown Quarries as a truck driver for over 20 years. He later worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia as a custodian until his retirement. He enjoyed driving and he and Irene traveled to most of the United States. He liked to play cards and visit and was a great storyteller. Bill was a gentle and congenial man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed fixing things. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Bill is survived by: two children, Dale F. Gibler and wife Myrana of Jefferson City and Debra Gibler Shultz of Columbia; three grandchildren, Megan Shultz (missing since 2006), Evan Gibler of Kansas City, and Charis Gibler of Jefferson City; one great-grandchild, Kaelin; four sisters, Jean Gibler Wright, Evelyn Gibler Belt Stock, Rita Beth Gibler Connell, and Catherine Gibler Vaughan; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by: four siblings, Laverne Wadley-Carson, James Dewey Gibler, Roy Lee Gibler, and Richard E. Gibler. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 22, 2016, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Entombment with military honors was at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Friday, April 22, 2016.
